
Division Entry Rules
DIVISIONS:
Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Acro/Open
Preschool and up.
Any division with 6 (six) or more contestants will be divided at the competition’s discretion.
Dance Spectacular reserves the right to add or combine divisions as needed.
Routines with more than 3 (THREE) tumbling skills will need to enter the Acro Division
Division Levels:
- NOVICE DANCER:
- A NOVICE dancer has NEVER performed before and is new to dance. This is their first/second year of dance training with no more than 2 hours of dance class per week. In this category, basic ballet and jazz technique moves are encouraged, as well as level changes and transitions in choreography.
- Only SINGLE turns are allowed. Advanced leaps of any kind are not permitted in Novice. Only somersaults and cartwheels are allowed for the tumbling. No walkovers or aerials are permitted in the Novice category.
- AMATEUR DANCER:
- An AMATEUR dancer has performed/competed before and has had no more than 4 years of dance training, with no more than 3 hours of dance/tumbling instruction per week. In this category, basic ballet and jazz technique moves are encouraged as well as level changes and transitions in choreography.
- Single pirouettes only. No a la second turned. No double/triple turns of any kind are permitted in this division. Basic leaps; grad jete’, Chaine jete’ and stage leaps are allowed. Advanced leaps; fouette leaps, chaine attitude, Firebird, etc are NOT permitted in this division. Basic tumbling; cartwheels, handstands and back walkovers are permitted. No front walkovers or aerials.
- The dancer has previously won QUEEN in the Novice division.
- INTERMEDIATE DANCER:
- An INTERMEDIATE dancer has been in several competitions and has had at least 4 to 5 years of dance training with no more than 5 hours of dance/tumbling instruction per week.
- In this category, creativity in choreography, shapes, patterns and creative transitions are encouraged.
- Ballet and jazz technique moves with an emphasis on proper technique. All types of leaps and turns are encouraged. Ariel, front and back walkover are allowed. If your routine has more than 3 (THREE) tumbling/acro moves, you should consider moving into the ACRO category.
- The dancer has previously won QUEEN in the Amateur division.
- ADVANCED DANCER:
- An advanced dancer has competed for years and has had 6 or more years of dance training and is currently training 6+ hours per week. In this category, any and all advanced movement is allowed. Artistry, creativity and technique are strongly encouraged in advanced routines versus multiple tricks.
- The dancer has previously won QUEEN in the Intermediate division.
- **Keep in mind that acro is meant to enhance your routine, not distract from it. You are being judged on your technique, skill, and execution, not on how many tumbling/acro moves you execute. If your routine is heavy with acro moves, consider entering in the OPEN/ACRO category.
General Guidelines
Registration Fees
- Early Bird Registration ends December 31, 2025
- Registration application with full payment must be received by January 31, 2026
- Registrations received after January 31, 2026, will incur a $10.00 late entry fee
- ***Once Registration is processed, No refunds will be issued.
- A $10.00 change fee will be charged for any changes to the original registration after registration is processed
General Admission
- Registered contestants will receive an admission wristband with scheduled performance times. A list of contestant and advisor passes will be at the admissions counter for verification. If a contestant loses his/her entry wristband, they will be required to purchase a new wristband.
- Spectators must purchase a 1 or 2-day pass to enter the competition. Passes are purchased through Weber State University.
MUSIC:
- All contestants/studios are required to supply their own (age-appropriate, clean lyrics) music. We have moved to digital music format, which will be required when the application is submitted. You will be able to upload your music on the application in a digital format.
- Studio music submissions must be received at least 45 days before the event.
- All contestants/studios will need to have a backup of their music.
- A dancer’s/studio representative should be present around the sound table in case a backup is required
Time Limits
- Solo, duo, trio, and quartet routines: One to Two (1min -2min) Minutes. Contact us at dancespectacular@gmail.com if the routine exceeds 2 minutes.
- Team routines 1 to 5 minutes
- Show/Production not to exceed 10 mins. If it exceeds 10 minutes, please note this on your registration.
- To ensure an accurate schedule, contestants and teams are required to be in costume and in their correct corners at least 30 minutes before their scheduled time.
Order of Performance
- The order of performance is based on the date the entry form is received. The first entries received will be the last in the division. The last entries received will be placed first in the division.
SHOES AND PROPS:
- All shoes must have non-marking soles, no exceptions
- Carry-on props are permissible but must be used during routine. If using props in a jazz, lyrical, or contemporary category, the props should NOT be the focal point of the routine.
- *** If your prop is large, involves a lot of prop use in choreography, or is a focal point in routines, then you will need to enter the OPEN category. ***
- Soloists and teams planning on using props are required to sign a liability waiver before taking the floor.
- A Dance Spectacular staff member will inspect all props to ensure proper padding is in place, preventing damage to the facility floors. Any prop not meeting the requirements will not be allowed on the floor until padding is installed on the prop
Awards
- Dance Spectacular recognizes every contestant who enters our competitions. All Solo/Duo/Trio participants receive a trophy and a Tiara and will be acknowledged for their performance.
- Solo Awards are given for the Queen through the 5th Attendant in each division. Duo/Trio awards are 1st through 5th place.
- Queens will receive a trophy, banner, tiara, and gift.
- Attendants will receive a trophy and a tiara.
- Every queen in each age division will be eligible for the overall award as long as they competed against another contestant in their age division
- Overall Queens will be announced at the end of Solo Night.
- All team members will receive a unique participation award.
- Studios will receive a large trophy and plaque to display their routine placements, along with individual awards for team members.
Overall Awards
- Overall queen – The queen with the highest place points & as agreed upon by the judging staff, will be crowned Miss Overall Queen in each level. Awards are given to the overall queen, consisting of a large trophy, banner, tiara, gift, and the following year registration discount.
- Overall TEAM – The team with the highest place points & as agreed upon by the judging staff, will be awarded the overall team in each level and receive a large trophy. and the following year’s registration discount.
- Overall Studio – To the highest scoring studio with 10 or more team routines. The top ten scores will be used to calculate the overall studio and will receive a large trophy and a competition registration discount the following year.
- Overall specialty Team awards receive a trophy.
VIDEO RULES:
Be respectful – You may video your own team or dancer. Spectators videoing other competitive teams/dancers will be given a verbal warning. If you attempt to video other teams/dancers after the 1st warning, you will be escorted out of the competition venue.
Discalaimer
Dance Spectacular reserves the right to refuse admission to anyone causing a scene or being rude to staff members or other competitors.

I hereby waive and absolve Dance Spectacular Competitions and all divisions thereof of any and all liability and responsibility for injuries, sickness, COVID-19, related injury or hospitalization, accidents, and/or acts of God incurred during participation/ attendance in competitions, camps, workshops, and related activity by myself/my child.
In consideration of my signed release allowing my child/myself to participate in an Dance Spectacular activity, I, intending to be legally bound, do hereby, my heirs, executor and administration, waive, release and forever discharge any and all rights and claims for damage which I may have or which may hereafter accrue to me against Dance Spectacular Competitions, the competition directors or their respective employees, office agents, representative, successors, and/or assignee, and the facility in which the competition takes place for any and all damages which may be sustained or suffered by me or my child in connection with my association with or participation in, or riding out of travel to and/ or return from the respective Dance Spectacular Competitions event site. In the event of injury/accident/sickness, Dance Spectacular Competitions officials and/ or instructors are to contact the designated adult listed below. In addition, I hereby give my permission for myself/my child to be photographed, videotaped, and or audio-taped during Dance Spectacular Competitions activity. I further permit such photographs, videotapes, and audiotapes to be used in print or broadcast media as deemed appropriate for the promotion of Dance Spectacular Competitions activities, and for publicity surrounding participation in Dance Spectacular Competitions events.
Code of Conduct
Dance Spectacular is committed to providing a supportive and respectful environment. All competitors, coaches, and audience members are expected to treat one another with courtesy and professionalism. Any disruptive or unsportsmanlike behavior will result in immediate disqualification or removal from the venue.
